This European Commission report explains the potential and functioning of green bond markets. It identifies bottlenecks and measures to overcome them, so green bonds can fulfil their huge potential.
Eunomia completed section 3 of this report, the Analysis of the Opportunity for Developing Common EU Standards (page 57). The project was led by consulting group COWI; Adelphi and EnergyPro also contributed to the report.
The study comes out two days after the Commission’s ‘Clean Energy for All Europeans’ package which find that an extra EUR 177 billion is needed annually from 2021 onwards to reach the 2030 climate and energy goals. New innovative funding and investment mechanisms will be essential to achieving this.
Eunomia’s analysis included:
- Existing standards and their key components;
- Key bottlenecks due to the lack of common standards;
- Possible EU policy measures for developing an EU Green Bond standard;
- Analysis of the EU policy measures.
