Eunomia have produced the report, Policy Measures on Plastics in Greece for WWF Greece, outlining the key policy measures and actions to drive solutions to plastic pollution in Greece.

This study builds on the findings of preceding work, Plastic pollution in Greece: How to Stop It – A Practical Guide for Policy Makers, carried out in 2019.  This new study extends the scope of this research from plastic production, consumption and waste management measures to incorporate plastic pollution from alternative sources, including microplastics and sea-based sources.

The report presents a literature review of existing knowledge on sources of plastic pollution and reviews EU legislative context for driving change in plastic pollution management in Greece. It strategically reviews relevant plastic pollution management systems and provides policy measures for managing plastic pollution in Greece. Finally, the report provides a scorecard developed to measure progress towards reduction of plastic pollution in Greece in the medium and long term.

The objective of this work is to fill in the gaps in the prior research. This will enable WWF Greece to encourage and support key stakeholders, including government, trade bodies and other associated organisations, to implement specific measures to tackle plastic pollution in Greece. Ultimately, the work will provide WWF with clarity about what is possible, the actions required and guidance for implementation, both in Greece and beyond. WWF can then use the information to drive and support positive stakeholder action.
