We have just completed a review of a communications strategy to be used by Wokingham Borough Council when it rolls out its new household food waste collection service in 2019.
The review, which was commissioned by WRAP, provided advice on the messaging strategy, target audiences and branding, and developed outline costs and an activity timetable.
Wokingham benefitted from our mix of communications and operational experience, with the work being led by our new waste communications expert Gareth Morton supported by Specialist Technical Advisor Emma How. Gareth has worked on many successful local authority recycling campaigns and local, county/waste authority and national levels while Emma rolled out new services, including food waste, during her years working for local authorities.
In addition to reviewing the communications strategy, we were able to provide practical insights on delivering the campaign, based on our experience of running similar service change communications schemes for other councils.
We also advised Wokingham on how to make use of social media to boost householder engagement with the new service, drawing on the experience of our Social Media Co-ordinator Charlotte Perkins.
