Natural economy consultancy
Working together to protect our natural environment and manage precious natural resources in sustainable ways.
Why we need a natural economy
Our complex, beautiful natural world is essential to our wellbeing and survival. We rely on clean water, fresh air, healthy soils, and thriving biodiversity for food, drinking water, energy, and climate regulation.
Our whole economy – from farming to fishing, renewable energy to tourism – depends on these assets. Our failure to invest in protecting our natural assets means we now face the twin challenge of living sustainably and restoring biodiversity in the face of climate change. There’s a real need for transformative approaches that are collaborative and innovative to secure a future for nature and society.

How we work
Our multi-disciplinary team includes people with expertise in environmental science, natural science, social science, economics, environmental modelling, communications, engagement and behaviour change many of whom have cross-disciplinary experience. We have a detailed understanding of the interconnected threads between natural (land and water), and social (people and the economy) systems. We undertake research to build evidence, knowledge and insight to develop more sustainable routes and help shape, develop, analyse and evaluate policies and strategies to futureproof natural assets. In particular we focus on integrated water management, sustainable land use, biodiversity, nature-based solutions, and climate adaptation and resilience.
Our strong network of relationships with many stakeholders operating in this environment, means we can help navigate governance and partnership working. We work collaboratively with our clients locally, nationally and internationally and are valued for being adaptive to ensure our work focusses on turning goals into outcomes.

Our natural economy consultancy services
01Biodiversity and nature-based solutions
We help organisations design and implement interventions that restore and enhance nature, such as nature corridors and site-specific restoration plans. Our work includes developing nature-based solutions, action plans, and business cases that make the value of nature visible and actionable, and monitoring their impacts.
02Climate adaptation and resilience
We build evidence for climate-related decision-making, from assessing flood risks and coastal erosion to analysing drought and water resources. Our team supports governments, organisations and communities to strengthen their resilience and climate change communication, using systems thinking, behaviour change, training, action plans, and collaborative planning.
03Integrated water management
Our team supports more sustainable management of water resources by improving catchment management, water quality, and regulatory compliance strategy. Our work spans governance and partnerships as well as policy research. By combining stakeholder engagement, horizon scanning, foresight and systems thinking, we help clients navigate complex water challenges and support collaborative decision-making.
04Nature finance and investment strategies
Eunomia understands innovative finance mechanisms, governance structures and partnerships that raise funding for nature recovery. Our services include natural capital modelling, ecosystem services assessment and the development of investment strategies, blended finance plans, and portfolios of investment-ready opportunities. We help organisations understand the benefits of land-use change and support the development of nature markets that balance food production and community needs.
05Sustainable food systems and diets
We advise government and organisations on strategies to reduce environmental impacts, from assessing supply-chain impacts to developing food waste assessments and reduction plans, and dietary shift strategies. Our work includes carbon footprinting, life-cycle analyses, responsible sourcing strategies, and engagement with farmers, businesses, and consumers.
06Sustainable land use, farming and forestry
Eunomia supports governments and organisations to find strategies that balance productivity with environmental resilience. Exploring routes to sustainable food production, modelling scenarios for land use change to assess impacts on land-based emissions and ecosystem services, and co-designing solutions with stakeholders. By applying integrated approaches, we help assess interconnected challenges and support systemic transitions.
Across all our Natural Economy services, we draw on three core capabilities:
We support businesses in building a more sustainable future, helping to navigate regulatory requirements and emerging sustainability standards such as TNFD, SBTN, and CSRD. This includes capacity building and training, developing strategies, and conducting carbon and natural capital assessments, supporting collaborative decision-making,, consensus building and partnership.
We undertake policy research, design, evaluation, horizon scanning and foresight by identifying environmental risks, opportunities and long-term trends. Our work spans evidence reviews, social research, systems thinking and evaluating policies and programmes, helping partners strengthen governance, collaboration and impact.
At a local level, we work with Local Authorities, communities and place-based projects to support the development of local strategies, governance reviews, strategic funding and resilience plans, carry out carbon and natural capital assessments, and bring people together to build capacity and drive behaviour change.
We are working with clients and partners to build a new economy that is circular by design, grounded in natural systems, and powered by low-carbon principles – three interdependent, overlapping, and mutually reinforcing strategies.

Case studies
WWF – Halving the environmental impact of grocery shopping
WWF want to halve the environmental impact of UK shopping baskets by 2030, and we are helping them to achieve this by supporting the WWF Basket initiative. We devised data collection templates to monitor and evaluate info from retailers, and we collect and analyse data on the sustainability of consumers' food shopping baskets.
WWF Cymru – Building a sustainable Welsh food system
To help WWF test the ambition of Welsh Government policy and sustainable land management planning, Eunomia modelled the biophysical possibility and likely environmental, socio-economic, and cultural impacts of four pathways for a transition to net zero agroecology in Wales by 2050.
Shropshire Wildlife Trust – Solutions for nature-based investment
Eunomia explored how private sector investment can support nature recovery through mechanisms that blend public and private finance. Our research found considerable appetite among businesses and farmers to collaborate in building a more resilient natural environment.
Natural England – Nature South West phase 1 scoping project
Eunomia worked closely with Natural England, National Landscapes, and their partners to scope the potential for a regional partnership that will help drive nature recovery and climate resilience at scale in the South West of England.
LUNZ Hub – Workshop on UK land use for net zero, nature, and people
In collaboration with other members of the new Land Use for Net Zero (LUNZ) Hub, Eunomia delivered a two-day workshop with key players in land use policy making, research, and governance. The workshop sought to identify approaches that can be used consistently by the four UK nations to develop comparable pathways to Net Zero.
